SnapTrade Personal security

SnapTrade Personal lets you connect your brokerage accounts so you can use your investment information with other tools.

You can use it with supported apps, AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT, or tools you build yourself.

Your investments stay at your brokerage. SnapTrade does not hold your investments.

What happens when you connect a brokerage?

  1. 1

You connect your brokerage through SnapTrade

For many brokerages, you sign in directly with your brokerage and approve the connection there.

For others, you complete the connection through SnapTrade’s secure connection flow.

  2. 2

Your investments stay at your brokerage

Connecting your account does not move your investments to SnapTrade.

Your stocks, ETFs, cash and other investments remain in your brokerage account.

  3. 3

You decide how to use your information

Once connected, you can use your brokerage information with supported apps, AI assistants, or tools you build yourself.

  4. 4

    You can disconnect

You control which brokerages and apps you connect.

You can remove an app’s access or disconnect a brokerage from your SnapTrade account.

What information can SnapTrade access?

This depends on what your brokerage makes available.

It can include:

  • accounts
  • balances and cash
  • investments and positions
  • orders
  • transaction history, including buys, sells and dividends

Different brokerages provide different information, so availability can vary.

Using AI assistants

Can Claude or ChatGPT trade for me?

Not through the standard SnapTrade connection.

When you connect SnapTrade to Claude or ChatGPT, they can read brokerage information such as:

  • accounts
  • balances
  • positions
  • orders
  • transaction history

They cannot use that connection to place trades, move money, or change your brokerage account settings.

Trading is separate and only available through tools and brokerage connections that support it.

Does Claude or ChatGPT get my brokerage login?

No.

Your AI assistant does not receive your brokerage username or password. It also does not receive your SnapTrade user ID or secret.

For many brokerages, you sign in directly with your brokerage and approve the connection there.

Some brokerages use a different connection method. In those cases, the connection is handled securely through SnapTrade.

SnapTrade also uses encryption to protect your information.

Use apps built with SnapTrade

The SnapTrade App Directory helps you discover apps and tools that work with SnapTrade Personal.

You choose which apps you want to connect.

Different apps may request different access, so review what an app is asking for before you connect it.

Building your own tools

If you want to build something for yourself, you can use SnapTrade Personal to access your own brokerage data and create tools such as:

  • a personal portfolio dashboard
  • an investment tracker
  • alerts and reporting tools
  • your own trading tools

Your own tools can also use trading access where supported.

This is separate from connecting Claude or ChatGPT, which is read-only.

Want to try it without connecting a real brokerage?

You can.

SnapTrade offers simulated data so you can test your own tools without connecting a real brokerage account.
