Who uses SnapTrade?

SnapTrade can be used by companies building investing products or by individuals using their own brokerage accounts.

Apps and developers

An investing or fintech company can use SnapTrade to let its users connect supported brokerage accounts.

SnapTrade handles the brokerage connectivity and makes supported investment information available to the app.

This means developers do not need to build and maintain a separate integration with every financial institution they want to support.

Individuals

SnapTrade Personal is for people who want to use their own brokerage accounts outside their brokerage’s app.

Individuals can connect their brokerage accounts once and use their investment information with supported apps, Claude, ChatGPT or tools they build themselves.

They remain in control of their brokerage connections and can disconnect access.

For technical readers: companies can integrate SnapTrade through its API. SnapTrade Personal can be used directly or with apps that support SnapTrade authorization (OAuth).

What SnapTrade is - and what it isn’t

  • It connects accounts people already have

SnapTrade connects to existing brokerage accounts at supported financial institutions.

People do not transfer their investments to SnapTrade.

  • It helps investment information work across apps

Depending on the institution and connection, available information can include accounts, balances, positions, orders and transactions.

  • It can be used by individuals too

SnapTrade Personal lets individuals connect and use their own brokerage accounts without needing to build a commercial application.

They can use their brokerage information with supported apps and AI tools, export or analyze their data, or build their own investing tools.

  • Investments stay at the brokerage

Connecting an account through SnapTrade does not transfer stocks, ETFs, cash or other investments to SnapTrade.

  • SnapTrade is not a brokerage

SnapTrade provides brokerage connectivity. It does not replace the financial institution where the investor holds their account.

  • Capabilities vary

Available data, authentication methods, account types, data freshness and trading capabilities depend on the financial institution and connection.

Our story

SnapTrade grew out of a problem the team experienced while building the investing app Passiv.

Connecting reliably to retail brokerages meant building and maintaining separate integrations, each with different authentication methods, data formats and technical requirements.

The team built the brokerage connectivity infrastructure it wished already existed.

Today, companies use SnapTrade to add brokerage integrations to investing products, while individuals can use SnapTrade Personal to connect their own accounts and use their investment information with more apps and tools.
